Bardolino is one of the most beautiful places of Garda’s Veronese riviera. Apart from being one of the most visited destinations by tourists of the lake, it is very rich in history.

The construction of the first castle by Berengario and agreed on by all the people living on the lake in order to let it become a defence system against invasions, dates back to the IX century.

The castle in Bardolino became larger until it made up an only fortalice for the town together with the Della Scala family.
In the XII century, Bardolino was known as an independent town and the right to fish was extended to almost all the families living around the lake in 1222. During the Middle Ages and Modern Times, Bardolino followed Verona’s destiny.

In Bardolino you can visit the church of San Zeno which is one of the most outstanding Carolingian ones in Italy dating back to the second half of the IX century.
It has a Latin-cross plan with barrel vaults on the aisles and grin vaults on the dome cladding. Original decorations are still kept on the aisles.
